Consistent consumption of clean water is essential for the proper maintenance and generation of cells, tissues and organs within our bodies. It helps us in regulating body temperature, moistens the tissues in the eyes, nose and mouth, as well as transporting critical nutrients and oxygen to our cells (adult human bodies consist of 60% water). But there have been growing trends surrounding something known as ‘alkaline water’ and the potential health benefits.

The quality of the foods and liquids we consume plays such an important role in determining how we live our lives. It provides us with energy, helps to maintain the ongoing functions of our organs and internal systems, affects our moods and thought processes – in fact, just about every element of our existence has some relationship with our diets.

We have all heard the old adage, ‘you are what you eat,’ but many of us would be surprised to learn how true that really is. Our gut is an incredibly intricate and complex system within our bodies that has a significant influence on our wider health – so much so, in fact, there is a growing amount of research still being conducted throughout the medical world to determine the extent of that influence.

A variety of health problems can potentially occur when the body is either too alkaline or too acidic. When the body fluids become too acidic, a condition called acidosis develops. Your kidneys and lungs will not be able to regulate the acid levels due to a variety of reasons, causing either respiratory or metabolic acidosis, which can lead to a range of issues including fatigue and drowsiness, headaches, jaundice, and an increased heart rate.
