Structured Water: Definition, Research & Facts
Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the last few years, you already know that water has a plethora of health benefits. Drinking it helps to slow down signs of ageing, prevent many diseases, and nourish the human body every day. Failing to maintain adequate consumption of clean water can lead to unfavourable symptoms of dehydration, including overwhelming headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and a significant reduction in productivity. What you might not have heard about water is that not all water is the same. Some formulations offer an optimal impact on your body and well-being. Drinking Structured water achieves optimal cellular hydration by increasing bioavailability and absorbency throughout your body.
So, whilst water is a common compound, quality water is a far less common occurrence, and it’s important to know what you are putting into your body. Proponents of structured water believe it magnifies the benefits that water already provides and supercharges your body’s energy reserves. This formula is one of the best-kept secrets in health and wellbeing, and it’s also one of the least understood.
What is structured water? What makes it different from regular water? Understanding the answers to these questions can unlock one of the richest resources for your mind and body. Read on for more information on what structured water can do to help you reach your fullest potential.
What is Structured Water?
Liquid, ice and vapour – we are all familiar with these three phases of water, but structured water is the lesser known ‘fourth phase’ between liquid and ice. It is the formation found within our cells, in fruits and vegetables, springs and mountains and elsewhere throughout nature.
Leading scientist Professor Gerald Pollack describes the water protoplasm within a cell as more of a gel-like form, and as such, structured water has been given many different names, including ‘gel water’, ‘activated water’ and even H3O₂, referring to the 3 hydrogen & 2 oxygen molecules present within its composition. It is also this specific arrangement of molecules that impacts how we receive water in the body and allow for deeper cellular hydration.
The Structured Water Molecule
To understand structured water, you must first understand its makeup. The structured water molecule differs from standard water down to the microscopic level, and this has been explored by extensive chemical research. While both kinds of water share the standard formulation of H2O, there are multiple differences that set structured water apart from its typical counterpart. Some of the molecular properties that define the structured water molecule include the following:
- Differently angled bonds between hydrogen molecules
- Increased energy from life force
- Greater bio-availability of vital minerals and vitamins
- Neutralised contamination and toxin content
What is Meant by the ‘Hexagonal Structure’ of Structured Water?
The differences are easily seen when examining standard water and structured water at the molecular level. One look at a standard water molecule will reveal unstructured edges and angles in its composition, whereas a look at structured water reveals that it is composed of hexagonal crystal structures. This difference in structure indicates a lack of toxin content in the latter sample and a greater concentration of minerals. With this in mind, it is believed that structured water shares the same characteristics and elevated health benefits as water sources unpolluted by contaminants or human interference.
This hexagonal, crystalline structured water is still under scientific debate, with many believing the structure itself can only last a few picoseconds or that the number of atoms fails to add up. In his book, The Fourth Phase of Water - Beyond Solid Liquid Vapor, Professor Pollack posits that he recognises people nurtured on textbooks of modern chemistry will find little that resonates, as the current textbooks imply something quite different to what he has seen in his research. The results show that within the planar hexamer structure of water, the ratio is 3:2, not 2:1, denoting H302 not H20.

Structured Water Science
Structured water, down to the very molecule, is said to offer a range of increased benefits and life force to humans. Molecular analysis supports the science behind this by proving the fundamental difference between structured and standard water.
The science of these benefits is far more complicated than that though, and has to do with the energy contained in the H2O molecule. Just as scientists can examine the molecular structures of water, they can capture the energy emitted by water and see it through a technology called gas discharge visualisation (GDV).
The GDC imaging method allows viewers to see the electrical discharge emitted by its subject. In the case of water, GDV reveals that immense energy is emitted, but these energy levels vary based on what kind of water is being analysed. GDV produces an image of light against darkness, and the greater the light, the greater the energy being transmitted. While standard water produces a small orb of light, structured water emits a far greater glow multiple times as big.
Beyond GDV, new developments with structured water are being tested and researched in a range of studies and clinical trials. For example, one study includes using nanotechnology structured water to control blood glucose in type 2 diabetic patients, alongside a series of others noting the effects of structured water on animals.
What Benefits Does Structured Water Offer the Human Body?
Drinking water already holds a variety of benefits to maintain proper hydration and nutrition. It allows our bodies to maintain a normal temperature, provides proper lubrication for cushioning our joints, apply protection to our spinal cord and sensitive tissues, and aids in the removal of wastes through urination and perspiration.
Proper consumption of clean water is even more important if you are experiencing certain illnesses or conditions resulting in excessive vomiting or diarrhea, or if you are undertaking rounds of continuous, strenuous exercise, particularly in hotter climates.
Unfortunately, when water undergoes harsh filtration and chemical treatments at municipal water treatment plants, it can interfere with the structure and natural energy of the water, fracturing the molecular alignment, not to mention introducing additional pollutants or contaminants.
Science is now looking into the role Mother Nature’s water cycle plays beyond simply providing a source of H2O. It instead produces an energised, specifically structured, and balanced compound benefiting and improving our greater well-being. This structured water is available in smaller water clusters that enables enhanced reception and absorption of the minerals and nutrients at the cellular level, bolstering our metabolism and residue excretion.
In fact, all of the well-documented advantages of hydration are said to be magnified when you make the switch to structured water.
Some of the structured water health benefits you may enjoy include:
- Greater concentration of energy
- Improved absorption of vitamins and minerals
- Boosted life force power
- Reduction of toxins throughout body
- Skin plumpness
- Better hydration, energy, and wellbeing
- Improved quality of sleep
- Enhanced digestive function
These are just a few of the benefits that drinkers of structured water have reported. After several weeks of drinking structured water, some consumers have anecdotally reported effects as dramatic as recovery from illness and diseases brought on by chronic dehydration, including migraines, arthritis, and constipation. These effects are unsurprising given the purity and performance of structured water—and you can discover the unique impact it offers you by trying it for yourself.
How Can You Make Structured Water?
Since the dawn of time, Mother Nature has created structured water using a careful preparation process and the finest ingredients on offer. If we wish to do the same, we need only to emulate her design process.
As water follows its natural path, it submits to a slow, natural filtration process, aided by sunlight and movement between the earths layers. Along this journey, the water also collects a selection of natural minerals that supports water’s natural structure and provides living creatures with sustaining hydration.
As such, creating structured water requires the right technology and the hand of an expert.
According to online magazine The Scientist, a process called vortexing creates the perfect balance to achieve a hexagonal, structured state. Vortexing works by processing water in such a way that a portion of its molecules separate back into their original oxygen and hydrogen state. The result is a highly oxygenated, hexagonal molecular structure that is thus more hydrophilic—meaning that it is more absorbable to your body and contains a greater energy force, therefore contributing to optimum hydration.
Potential Contributors to Creating Structured Water
Professor Pollack termed his findings as Exclusion Zone (EZ) water, and found that when water is situated near surfaces, it differs from bulk water. In his experiments, Pollack looked to identify the difference in the structure of the near-surface exclusion zone. He discovered that using extremely hydrophilic water and pouring it onto the surface triggered EZ layer growth, building progressively, layer by layer, beyond the conventionally considered molecular layers.
Honeycomb Hexamers Sheet Models
Hydrophilic surfaces contain oxygen atoms, and Pollack proposes those surface-oxygen atoms form a template creating the first EZ plane. A honeycomb hexamers sheet model could account for the EZ net charge, plus it builds on the evidence for a long-range ordering structure known with the solid form of water (ice).
Pollack also uncovered under his microscope that light – particularly on the infrared spectrum of sunlight – is absorbed by water, builds EZ layers and maintains the charge separation. The water molecules oscillate when exposed to the oscillating actions of far-infrared (FIR) rays with similar wavelengths, causing the water molecules to break into hydrogen and hydroxide ions. When influenced by far-infrared, the breakdown of the water molecules makes the size of the water clusters smaller and is referred to as ‘activation of water’.
Water Cluster Size
The structure of the water clusters’ size also connects to the earth's natural magnetic frequency, with the greatest effects of water magnetisation manifested in water with high electrolyte mineral salt content, as found in natural spring waters. The dissolved salts induce water clusters that are easily polarised in the presence of electric and magnetic fields, facilitating the binding of molecules. There have even been reproducible results showing definite effects of the magnetic fields on biochemical organisms.
Structured Water vs Alkaline Mineral Water
One of the last questions you might have about structured water is how it differs—or if it differs at all—from alkaline mineral water.
Just as structured water can be created through vortexing, alkaline water must be specially formulated through remineralisation which occurs naturally in nature as water filters through the earths layers or, commonly, through the addition of minerals that raise the natural alkalinity of the water. Proponents of alkaline mineral water claim many of the same benefits that structured water can provide—strengthened immune system, greater energy reserves, improved performance and focus, better quality sleep, increased absorption, and better sense of wellbeing.
The evidence to support these claims on the benefits of alkaline water have been established far longer than any research on structured water, though, with The Mayo Clinic citing studies that show it slows bone loss. If you are looking for a healthier water option that is backed by science, alkaline mineral water has been the product of choice for countless consumers for decades.

Is There a Way to Test If Your Water is Structured Water?
Unfortunately, there is no commercially available testing equipment for structured water, like there is for heavy metals and pH testing. The water science community instead recognises the importance of the connections to the natural environment, with Mother Nature providing the light spectrum, minerals, and electric charge required for structure.
Through systems like the zazen Alkaline Water Filter, users can replicate these processes, re-introduce the necessary elements to emulate Mother Nature’s design, and enjoy the same benefits. This is why we offer a 90-day money-back (no questions asked) guarantee, to give you plenty of time to experience and recognise the benefits of the structured water molecule.
How Else Can You Use Structured Water?
It shouldn’t only be us humans that benefit from introducing structured water into our diet. Our pets and even plants can also benefit from the smaller clusters within the structured water molecule, promoting greater absorption of nutrients on a cellular level.
How Does Structured Water Impact Meals When Used in Cooking?
Water isn’t simply for drinking. It can also be largely incorporated into wider uses, such as cooking, to obtain the benefits from the structured water molecule.
According to Professor Pollack, when we heat structured water for cooking or even boil it for consumption with tea and coffee, the bonds within the H3O2 molecular structure will remain unaffected, ensuring the benefits of structured water are not impaired when added to your meals.
Are There Any Downsides to Drinking Structured Water?
There are no downsides to drinking structured water, as the molecular organisation reflects Mother Nature’s design within spring water, waterfalls, and even the fluids found inside fresh fruit & vegetables.
